Best Jeep Winch Reviews
When getting a winch for any kind of truck, it would provide peace of mind to know that when you order one, you will get all the materials you need to assemble and install it. The Smittyblit winch does indeed come with all of the materials necessary, which is a very good thing because it eliminates the need to go and search for the necessary wiring and materials. When something like this is ordered, it can be very inconvenient to need to get additional materials required for installation. The warranty also provides peace of mind, as it has a five year or 100,000 mile warranty on any dual stage or powder coated products.
One thing that many have claimed should be improved with the Smittyblit winch is that the mounting bracketry is not designed too well. Because a winch is more or less a stronger version of a hitch, this is important to note because the Smittyblit winch is designed to hitch and haul things up to 9000 pounds. If the mounting bracketry is faulty, it can affect what it is carrying. The base mounting system also leaves a bit to be desired, as it is only constructed with a square nut arrangement. This makes it unusually easy to remove.
One thing that people look for the most when it comes to truck winches is the load capacity. Offroad Boar has developed a winch that has a load capacity that is matched by very few. It has a weight capacity of 13000 pounds, which makes it possible to connect almost any kind of vessel to it. This is by far the best thing about it. One other thing that Offroad Boar has done in their creation that is very innovative is that it has a wireless remote. Since most winches have a standard wired remote, this is a very welcome addition.
One thing that Offroad Boar can improve on is the size of the hooks they use. For a winch that can supposedly carry over 10000 pounds, the hooks they use tend to not fit onto the really big trucks that it is meant to carry. This is easily solved by getting a bigger hook, but this is still an inconvenience no matter how minor it is. The Offroad Boar winch can also perform a bit slow, especially when connecting heavier vessels to it. Again, this is not a major issue as it can still effectively carry the things attached to it effectively, but its lack of speed can turn some off.
Although not many think of it, safety is not something that many probably think about when it comes to truck winches. The X-Bull winch, while it is powerful and can carry up to 12000 lbs, also comes with a Braker which can make connecting, hitching, and hauling your equipment very safe. Another good thing about it is that it comes with three remote controls, two of them being wireless. This also adds to the safety factor as there can always be somebody in the background with a remote control to stop things if things go awry.
One thing that may turn people off when it comes to the X-Bull winch is that it doesn’t have exactly all of the materials and wiring that is necessary to install it completely. If you decide to get the X-Bull winch, you will need to get the proper wiring to install it completely. Another thing to watch out for are the cable attachments and the allen screw that attaches it to the drum. Some reports mention that the drum that is attached is not bracketed down perfectly. It would be wise to inspect the drum while installing it, and then check it again before loading anything onto it.
Most truck winches are waterproof, but still run the risk of failing to perform in water, specifically because of the wires that connect the winch and whatever it is dragging. Smittyblit has solved this issue by using rope instead of the usual cables. While cables run the risk of snapping in water, ropes can remain strong when dragging something. This makes the Smittyblit truck winch truly waterproof, where other winches are waterproof but to a fault. Like with all other Smittyblit winches, it comes with everything that is necessary to install. Some users of winches complain about the sizes of the hooks not being really effective for whatever they are trying to tow. The hook that comes with the Smittyblit winch is extremely effective and is a bit bigger than the hooks on most other winches.
The Smittyblit truck winch has a capacity of 9500 pounds, and this can leave something to be desired. Most other winches have a capacity of 11000 pounds or more, so the fact that the Smittyblit winch only has a capacity of 9500 pounds makes it a little less appealing when compared to the competition. Additionally, the wiring that is involved with installing it can get a bit complicated. They are difficult to attach together, and it may take different tools than the usual to put it together completely.
Anyone who uses the Warn winch to tow anything will never need to be concerned about the rope breaking. One of the best things about it, which is also one thing that stands out even among its own winches, is that the rope is made of steel. It will not break no matter how tight it gets. This makes towing anything within the Warn’s 10000 pound weight capacity very safe and easy. The remote control it comes with is also compatible with other Warn remote controls, which means that if you have another Warn winch, you will not need to get a different remote control.
One thing that the Warn winch lacks in is the bolts that are used for the fairlead. The winch indeed comes with them, but they are not long enough for most of the vessels it is designed to tow. This can be inconvenient for a couple of reasons. The first is that if you need longer bolts, you will need to buy them separately. Second, the longer bolts you need to buy may be too long and you may have to switch bolts if you want to tow different things with the Warn winch. This can get very inconvenient and time consuming. The other thing that may turn people off from the Warn winch is that it does not look as appealing as it could look. The connector cables stick out from its left side and this can take away from the Warn’s appeal. While this is completely aesthetic, it is worth mentioning.
I currently have three vehicles. A Jeep Wrangler YJ, a full-size 1990 Chevy Blazer and a Ford F150 Lariat 2006. I was thinking about getting a winch that could use all three. You would have to be an interchangeable winch that you could easily pull off one and slap on the other.
And in the end, there is a creature. It is a kit of Champion Power Equipment 10000 lb. Heavy duty service truck / Jeep Power Lathe with Mount speed hitch adapter.
This little beast easily mounts to a type of attachment bracket with a pin or a locking pin.
You need a particular bumper style or you can weld a pull on the bumper to connect to this bad guy. With the winch outside you can see the hook that is welded to the center of this sticker.
The good thing is that it can be put on and taken off at will. You can leave it on the back of your Jeep and only take it out when you need it. Alternatively, you can change from vehicle to vehicle without any problems until you have the same hook and cables attached to these vehicles as well.
I also like the fact that if you are going to do a lot of driving, you can take the winch before hitting the road. In this way there will be restricting the air flow to the engine or to add weight to the front of the vehicle, causing the resistance.
I have heard of people who have put a large winch on the front of their Jeep only to find that it blocks the flow of air to the radiator, causing overheating. Be able to remove it when necessary to help avoid this problem.
As you can see, the fasteners of the models very well for the front bumper, but do not forget to put the pin. You do not want to start driving or pulling without very important pin keeping it in place.
I like the fact that it has two buckets or lift handles installed on the sides of it. I’m sure it will make it much easier to bag around when it has not been mounted.
The reason I’m not leaving with this model was because of the simple fact that I’m lazy. I do not want to bag in a bumper to bumper the winch. When I put a lathe on a sticker, it will stay there.
Anyway, I like the concept, and if the idea of having a removable winch crank your engine, go for it.
Before choosing a winch, you may want to answer these simple questions before …
1. Is the winch to work or search?
If you are going to use this winch, you may want to get the most powerful you can afford. If it’s just for looks, and occasional use, you should at least get one that is rated by twice the PTT (gross vehicle weight) of the jeep.
2. Is it just to show and competitions?
Yes, there are people who buy these just to show. They never intend for them to be used, they are strictly bought to compete in Jeep beauty contests. If this is the case, you need one that is easy to clean and shines in better and more beautiful. Brand and high dollar is what you are looking for. The biggest and most expensive Warn winch you can find slap in your girl show could be what you want.
3. Is this for your personal use or to be used as a recovery unit?
If it is for personal use, be sure to obtain one that is at least 1.5 times the gross weight of your Jeep. If you plan to use all the time to pull others through the mud, you have to climb much more than that. Also, if to be used as a recovery unit, be sure to find one that has field coils in the motor stator instead of just the magnets. The magnets are great for light and medium use, as long as they are not left overheating. Keep an eye out for that.
What did I receive?
I’m so glad you asked me. When I was a winch buys, I wanted to get the best winch for my jeep that I could find.
First of all, I wanted the biggest one I found under $ 400.00
Since I live in Florida, I wanted one that was waterproof. I like to drive on the beach and get salt water in the works would definitely be a killer lathe.
I also wanted it to come with a wireless remote control. This way I could sit in the cabin of my Jeep and work the lathe at the same time be able to drive. I do not recommend trying this, but desperate times require desperate measures.
What Winch do I choose? As I’m sure you’ve guessed, it’s the Winch waterproof Tuff Stuff Xtreme 12,500Lb.
It came with everything I wanted and I can throw up to 12,500Lb. Finally it came to less than $ 350.00.
Now, some people said, “You must have bought a Warn.” But for me, this is like using a Rolex while digging ditches.
As a matter of fact, I know a guy who dropped about $ 1,400.00 on a Warn winch two years ago. I asked her if she had much use of it and she told me that the only thing she has done with him so far is to wash the mud. “It was a good winch, but for me, it’s too expensive bumper bling.
